Common questions about the UltraHeat S/AIR Series air-cooled induction heating power supplies, available in 2 kW and 4 kW models.
Does the S/AIR Series require water cooling?
No. The S/AIR Series is completely air-cooled — both the power supply and the compatible heat stations (HS-4AN and HS-1A) use air cooling only. This eliminates the need for a water chiller, plumbing, or water quality maintenance, making it ideal for portable applications or environments where water cooling is impractical.
What applications is the S/AIR Series designed for?
The S/AIR Series is designed specifically for low-temperature applications below 500°F (260°C). Typical uses include soldering, bonding, curing, shrink fitting of small components, and light brazing. For higher temperature applications, consider the water-cooled UltraHeat SM or SOLO series.
What is the difference between the SM and SMT models?
The SM models (SM-2A, SM-5A) include a standard control panel with 5 user programs. The SMT models (SMT-2A, SMT-5A) upgrade to a 5″ color LCD touch panel with 10 user programs, plus standard Digital I/O and analog power control. Both share the same power output and frequency range.
How much does the S/AIR power supply weigh?
The 2 kW models weigh just 11 lbs (5 kg) and the 4 kW models weigh 28 lbs (12.5 kg), making them among the lightest induction heating systems available. The compact size and air-cooled design make the S/AIR Series highly portable for field work or bench-top applications.
What is the frequency range?
The S/AIR Series operates from 20 kHz to 100 kHz across all models. The system automatically tunes to the optimal frequency for your coil and workpiece combination. All models deliver full rated power across the entire frequency range with 1% power control increments.
What external control and integration options are available?
The S/AIR Series offers optional Digital I/O for remote Start/Stop, external power control via 0–10V or 4–20mA inputs, temperature monitoring with K-type thermocouple, RS-485 serial interface for data logging and remote diagnostics, and an automation upgrade kit. On SMT models, Digital I/O comes standard.
What is the maximum cable length between the power supply and heat station?
The standard cable length is 6 ft (1.8 m). The maximum supported cable length is 30 ft (9.1 m), which provides flexibility for mounting the power supply away from the work area in production line setups. Contact our sales team for extended cable options.
