Application: Brazing
Industry: Manufacturing
Application Objectives: A heat pump manufacturer is looking to transition its heat-pimp brazing line from manual torch brazing to a fully automated induction brazing solution. Their goal is to improve quality and reliability, productivity, and safety. A new automated product line will be installed to replace manual brazing with a more consistent, operator-independent heating system.
The challenge: There are 4 joints per assembly, lying at different angles and in different planes. We need to determine how the parts are handled or introduced into the coil.
The solution: UltraFlex Power Technologies has the right solution: the Dragon Robot with integrated 3D camera assistance along with a Cobot.
Equipment: SOLO Dragon 24 Induction Brazing Cobot
Materials: Copper tubing – .351”-.535” OD Heat Pump, Tube to fittings
Key Parameters:
- Max Heat Cycle: 6-8 seconds per joint
- Duty Cycle: 50%
- Temperature tolerances: max. 1350 F
- Parts will be presented via conveyor
Process:
Tests started with training the 3D camera to locate the exact positions of the joints. Predefined parameters like temperature tolerances and timing cycles were programmed, and tests began. The parts will be positioned in front of the Dragon RoboStand 24 via an automated conveyor system, so we needed to examine every movement and to ensure every joint is in the right place in the induction field. We have used a custom-designed induction coil for optimal brazing cycles. The tests were successful, fulfilling the customer’s production cycle and process quality requirements.
Results and Conclusions: Custom coil design required for optimum brazing cycles and quality joints. Camera required for joint recognition.
