A company in the Automotive Industry is looking into induction heating to optimize an existing curing method and achieve faster heating time. The goal of this induction heating application is to heat steel bars to a maximum of 230 °C (446°F) for an adhesive to properly cure in under 95 seconds. The assembly is a suspension portion of an SUV Truck.
Industry: Automotive Industry
Equipment: A 10 kW power supply is recommended for this induction heating application as the most efficient and cost-effective option.
Process:
In order to avoid overheating, we need to ensure a 1.25” (3.17 cm) coupling gap from the bottom of the coil to the part and a 0.25” (6.35 mm) coupling gap from the edge of the coil to the part. The curing process is completed in 60 seconds at the power of 10 kW. After that, the client immediately bonds an additional part to the workpiece.
Benefits:
Induction heating allows precise temperature control to avoid damaging the paint. Heating time is improved achieving better efficiency.
