soldering wire to stainless steel

Objective
Soldering 300 series stainless steel wire frame to a thin coaxial wire.

Equipment
SBT3

Test 1

Materials
Small stainless-steel wire frame 0.006″ (0.16mm) thick, 0.57″x0.55″(14.5 x 14mm) with small coaxial cable 0.012″(0.32mm) thick
Solder paste

Key Parameters
Power: 2.43 kW
Temperature: 482°F (250°C)
Time: 0.5 seconds

Test 2

Materials
Small stainless steel strip 0.07″(2mm) wide, 0.006″(0.16mm) thick, small coaxial cable 0.012″(0.32mm)
Solder paste

Key Parameters
Power: 2.43 kW
Temperature: 482°F (250°C)
Time: 0.5 seconds

Results and Conclusions:

The wire was soldered to the stainless steel frame in 0.5 seconds. The same amount of time and power was used to solder the small strip to the wire as well.
For cleaner solder joints, fixturing will be required and a method to apply the solder paste accurately in the correct amounts.
There is also a possibility of soldering multiple joints at a time with an extended custom coil and the correct fixturing.
