Application: Induction Brazing
Objective: Our client in the HVAC industry approached us seeking to replace their torch brazing process with induction heating technology. As experts in HVAC brazing, they sent us various-sized copper tubes, fittings, elbows, and unions for testing.
To ensure optimal results, we conducted application tests on different sample sizes, including 1.125” (2.86 cm) tube + 1” (2.54 cm) coupler, 1.125” (2.86 cm) tube + 1.25” (3.18 cm) elbow, 7/8” (2.22 cm) tube + 1” (2.54 cm) coupler, and 7/8” (2.22 cm) tube + 1” (2.54 cm) elbow. The client also provided a 15% silver brazing rod used in their production process.
The primary objectives of this application were to achieve energy efficiency and less operator-dependent operation, with a maximum brazing temperature of 800°C as the key requirement.
Industry: Appliances & HVAC
Equipment: We used the SOLO UBraze Hand-held Induction Brazing System with a C shape standard brazing coil of 1-1.5” (2.54-3.81 cm).
Process: Our application engineers conducted all four tests using the samples provided, achieving a heating cycle time of approximately 30-40 seconds per joint. The induction system was set to 15kW of power and a temperature of ~800°C. The preferred cycle times of 40 seconds allowed for sufficient heat uniformity to soak the joint, while the shape of the details and the tightness of the alloy around the joint were critical factors in achieving successful results.
Benefits: Induction brazing applications are the most preferred for process optimization, offering greater ease of future automation. Our successful results met the client’s desire to improve the quality and reliability of their production process.
