Nanoparticle Research

What is Nanoparticle Research with Induction?

Electromagnetic nanoparticle heating is a process where alternating magnetic field is induced in magnetic nanoparticles which causes heat generation. The generated thermal energy is a result of independent mechanisms such as hysteresis loss, Neel and Brownian relaxation.

Industries and Processes

Nanoparticle research is currently an area of intense scientific interest due to a wide variety of potential applications. Nanoparticle heating is used across many industries – biomedical research, environmental science, and new materials fields. Some of the most common applications of nanoparticles in the biomedical field are magnetic particle hyperthermia and drug delivery systems. Hyperthermia therapy for cancer treatment targets to destroy tumors through heating of cancer cells to elevated temperatures alone or combined with other therapies.

Benefits of Induction for Nanoparticle Heating

Induction heating systems, such as resonant RF generators, are widely used as a source of the high frequency alternating electromagnetic field for generating thermal energy in the nanoparticles.

Utilizing a specific induction coil design, a uniform and controllable magnetic flux density can be achieved inside the coil. The magnetic induction can be precisely controlled by varying the alternating current through the coil.

Using adjustable resonant circuit components enables the induction systems to operate in a wide frequency range. Typical frequencies used for nanoparticle research are in the range of 50kHz to 500 kHz.
